Therapy Services
When it hurts to move, turn to Orthopaedic Associates of Duluth to help get you back to your full range of living. Our compassionate team of physical and occupational therapists at Orthopaedic Associates work alongside our surgeons to provide a team approach to patient care– allowing us to provide customized treatment plans. Together, we will get you back in motion, enjoying a mobile, independent lifestyle.
Depending on each patient’s case, therapy can be utilized on its own with non-surgical options and interventions or as part of a total treatment plan that includes surgery. Therapy can be used to prevent injury as well. Whether you are in need of post-surgical therapy or are suffering from a sport, work-related or repetition injury, we can work with you to customize your treatment plan from start to finish.
We have two great offices to serve your therapy needs. Our main expanded office in Duluth allows our therapists to work directly alongside our physicians. Our second therapy office in Hermantown offers a spacious fitness gym and our sport specific programs.
Physical Therapy
Whether it’s treatment for an injury or following surgery, our physical therapists are specialized in the areas of orthopedics and sports injuries. Our physical therapists have advanced training in orthopedics, manual therapy, and sports rehabilitation, with the goals of improving strength, function, and mobility. Treatment is customized for each patient using a hands-on approach to recovery, emphasizing the importance of educating patients on their condition so they can follow through with treatments at home.
We offer one-on-one sessions, total joint post-op care and several specialized therapy programs including:
- Sportsmetrics ACL prevention and return to sport program
- Running assessments and custom running programs
- Return to sport testing
- Dry needling, a customized treatment for craniofacial, cervicothoracic and upper extremity musculoskeletal conditions
Occupational Therapy
If you are having trouble performing daily activities that are important to you, our experienced Occupational Therapy team will evaluate and design an individualized program to improve your functional abilities. Our staff includes certified hand therapists, who specialize in treatments for hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Occupational therapy treatments may include splinting, range of motion, strengthening, manual techniques, and modalities
Functional Capacity Assessments
The Functional Capacity Assessment is a 2-day standardized test to evaluate a patient’s ability to perform work abilities.
Running Assessments
Our team provides running assessments designed to analyze a runner’s performance in order to help provide and create personalized running plans. These plans are put to use in therapy and recovery to get our patients back to running at full speed.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points (painful knots in muscles), tendons, ligaments, or nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Durable Medical Equipment
We understand that consistency is key when it comes to your recovery. For the convenience of our patients that are working with our physical therapy team, we have expanded our retail products and tools available to purchase. This allows our patients to continue their progress and successful recovery at home.
Pilates Reformer
As part of our physical and occupational therapy services, we offer the Pilates Reformer. The Reformer is used to improve (rather than give) stability, strength, flexibility, and posture.
