Short Term Disability Claims Specialist

Job Description: The Disability Specialist plays a critical role in facilitating disability and work comp claims processes within our organization. This position involves completing paperwork for disability claims, filing interventions for work comp claims, managing time off requests, and fulfilling work status requests. Additionally, the Disability Specialist will be responsible for handling disability and work comp medical records requests and may undergo cross-training with the registration department. Some level of insurance knowledge is desirable for this role. This position will also be responsible for backing up our front office staff and registering patients when necessary.

Responsibilities:

· Complete disability paperwork for patients efficiently and accurately.

· File interventions for work comp claims and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

· Process time off requests and work status requests in a timely manner.

· Handle disability and work comp medical records requests effectively.

· Collaborate with the registration department and potentially provide coverage during absences.

· Demonstrate proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.

· Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in all interactions.

· Communicate effectively with doctors, staff, and patients.

· Work independently to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

· Provide exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.

· Backup support to co-workers when necessary.

· Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Ability to meet deadlines and exceed customer service expectations.

· Proficiency in typing and navigating EMR systems.

· Familiarity with the medical field and terminology.

· Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

· Prior experience in filling out forms for disability and work comp claims is advantageous but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate.

· Preferred knowledge of registration and insurance processes to provide coverage when needed.

· Enthusiasm for working with electronic forms and EMR systems.
