Orthopaedic Associates to Host Free Fall Prevention and Balance Class

November 19, 2018

Duluth, MN (11-19-18) – Orthopaedic Associates of Duluth is offering a free fall prevention and balance class for those interested in learning how to prevent falls, what exercises are best to prevent falls, and what to do in case of a fall.

During the class, participants will learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercises to increase strength and balance. Fall risk assessments will also be available on site to determine the level of risk for falls and which, if any, assistive device is necessary when walking.

Older adult falls are a leading cause of injuries, disability, and death.  Evidence has shown that participation in balance/strength classes prevents falls.

The class will be held Monday, Dec. 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Orthopaedic Associates Physical Therapy Office in Hermantown at 4310 Menard Drive, Suite 400.  It is free to the public and open to anyone regardless of walking ability, health conditions, or fitness level. Reservations are required. Interested participants can call 218-336-7676 to reserve their spot.
