Job Summary   

The CMA performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to assist health care professionals, to keep the health care continuum running smoothly.  Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.

 

Qualifications

Requires a High School diploma, formal training in a CMA/CNA program preferred

Requires AAMC Certification or related

Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Requires knowledge of medical records and Electronic Medical Records software

Requires ability to deal with interruptions and unrelated details while maintaining progress of daily tasks

Requires the ability to gain cooperation from personnel on all levels

Ability to put patients at ease and explain physicians’ instructions

 

Essential Functions:

Comply with the working and physical requirements that require a full range of body motion including, but not limited to, stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling.  This position requires lifting as much as 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Administrative:

Assist the physicians and physician assistants with patient care in the exam rooms

Greet and assist patients from the waiting area to the exam room

Answer general questions from patients with a high degree of customer service

Update patient information with the EMR

Schedule X-rays/MRIs as directed by physician

Arrange for hospital admission and laboratory services

Build strong relationships with patients and their families

Properly sort paperwork and distribute to the correct departments

Clean/sterilize and stock exam rooms

Inventory/restock supplies in the supply room

Clinical:

Take Vitals and enter information into the EMR

Assist physicians by entering information into the EMR

Draw and set up injections

Position patients and prep area to be injected

Remove Bandages, Sutures and Staples and apply Steri-Strips as directed by physician

Apply sterile dressings as needed

Dispose of contaminated supplies

Sterilize medical instruments

Fit Patient for Various Supplies (i.e. Cast Boots, Slings and Braces)

Apply, adjust and remove casts and other orthopedic devices as directed by a physician

 

Teamwork:

Assist other departments with approved tasks when asked, and as workflow allows

Assist with general office-wide tasks

Orthopedic Associates of Duluth, PA is currently seeking Physician Assistants to join our growing practice.  Our PAs enjoy practicing within a variety of Orthopedic Sub-Specialties to include General Ortho, Foot & Ankle, Hand, Total Joints, and Sports Medicine.  The practice opportunities include a blend of clinic and hospital/operating room time.  The Physician Assistants at Orthopaedic Associates of Duluth, PA enjoy the opportunity to maintain a level of autonomy in their practice while functioning as part of a team.

  • The Orthopedic department is a very team focused, collaborative group that embraces learning while treating a wide variety of patients.
  • The department has 9 Physicians, 7 PAs
  • The ideal candidate will be someone who has a background working in Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Surgery and Trauma.
  • Anticipated work schedule:  Days  Monday – Friday 45 Hour Work Week
  • Clinic Work = 40%  Hospital/Surgery Center Work = 60%
  • Call Rotation = 1:7
  • Estimated Office patients per day = 16
  • Estimated procedures per day = 5

Required education:

  • PA Certified or Board eligible

Required license or certification:

  • Current MN License
  • Current BLS/ACLS
  • Successful completion of Orthopaedic Associates credentialing process prior to practice
